Former Washington State University men's basketball guard Kyle Weaver posed for a portrait photo as part of the Oklahoma City Thunder media day. Weaver and the Thunder will take the court tomorrow for the team's first official practice.

Low scores team-high 26 points in win

Former Washington State University men's basketball guard Derrick Low scored a team-high 26 points to help lift the Sydney Spirit to the team's first win of the NBL season. Low scored 12 of his points in the fourth quarter and the Spirit defeated the Adelaide 36ers 112-105 on Saturday.

Legends Classic tickets to go on sale tomorrow

The official Legends Classic website reports that tickets for this year's championship-round games at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., will go on sale tomorrow at 8 a.m. (PT). Starting times for the doubleheaders that the Washington State University men's basketball team will participate in on Friday, Nov. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 29, are set for 2:30 p.m.

Low scores 16 points, Spirit remain winless

Former Washington State University men's basketball guard Derrick Low scored 16 points in the Sydney Spirit's 99-89 loss to the Adelaide 36ers on Wednesday. Low shot 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 5-of-19 overall from the field. The Spirit are now 0-3 on the season.

WSU announces changes to 2008-09 schedule

The official Washington State University athletics site reports the Cougar men's basketball team has revised its 2008-09 schedule.

The Cougars have flip-flopped several dates in the month of November as they will open the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, hosting Mississippi Valley State, a game originally scheduled for Nov. 23. WSU will then take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the first round of the Legends Classic in Pullman.

The Cougars will take on newly appointed opponent, Canisius on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Cougs will end the month of November in Newark, N.J., at the Legends Classic where they will take on Mississippi State in the semifinals (Nov. 28). WSU will then take on either Pittsburgh or Texas Tech (Nov. 29).

The Cougars will appear on TV at least eight times (FSN, CBS, and possibly ABC). Regional television, including FSN Northwest, is still a possibility for remaining games.

  • The Charlotte Observer has a short note on 6-foot-9 forward David Chatwick committing to Washington State University. According to The Observer, Chadwick's father performed the wedding ceremony for Cougar coach Tony Bennett back when Bennett played for the Charlotte Hornets.
  • Former WSU guard Kyle Weaver is one of 14 players listed on the Oklahoma City Thunder's newly released training camp roster. The Thunder will open camp on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

WSU reportedly lands power forward

According to separate postings on CougZone.com and CougFan.com, 6-foot-8, 215-pound power forward David Chadwick is heading to the Palouse next year.

Chadwick is a senior at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, N.C. His father, David, played men's basketball for the University of North Carolina. ESPN.com rates Chadwick its No. 47 prospect at the power forward position and provides a detailed scouting report.

Basketball annual projects Cougs to finish fifth

According to a blog entry by The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta, Athlon's annual basketball magazine projects Washington State University to finish fifth in the Pac-10 this season. Athlon picks center Aron Baynes as one of five players on its All-Pac-10 Second Team, while Taylor Rochestie is a member of the third team. Rochestie is also tabbed as the conference's most underrated player.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Sydney Spirit coach Rob Beveridge is challenging former Washington State University men's basketball guard Derrick Low to pick up his play and be more assertive. Low and the Spirit will take on the Wollongong Hawks on Saturday.

ESPN senior basketball writer Andy Katz reports Washington State University men's basketball coach Tony Bennett heaped praise on highly-touted freshman Klay Thompson after the team's first week of workouts. Bennett also said three of the Cougars' five freshman will need to contribute this season and that defense will be key.

Single-game tickets to go on sale Oct. 25

Single-game tickets for the 2008-09 Washington State University men's basketball season will go on sale Oct. 25.

Individual ticket prices range from $50 for baseline courtside seats to $15 for a spot in the upper bowl (youth and senior tickets in the upper bowl will cost $10). Seats for the Cougars' games against Gonzaga, UCLA, and the University of Washington will cost an additional $10-25.

Low scores 13 in regular-season NBL debut

Former Washington State University men's basketball guard Derrick Low tallied 13 points and an assist in his regular-season NBL debut as the Sydney Spirit fell to the Melbourne Tigers 112-102 on Sunday. Low started for the Spirit and played 36 minutes. He shot 6-for-20 from the field and was 0-for-5 from 3-point range. Sydney's next game will be on Saturday against the Wollongong Hawks.
