NCAA rules Boeke's former club teammate will miss season and lose year of eligibility

The official Iowa State athletics site reports that the NCAA student reinstatement committee has ruled that Iowa State basketball player Lucca Staiger will miss the entire 2007-08 season and lose a year of eligibility.

In mid-October the NCAA ruled that a club team Staiger and Washington State University freshman Fabian Boeke played for in Germany was professional because of the amount of compensation two of their teammates received. Both players were subsequently denied certification to compete in the NCAA; since that time WSU and Iowa State have been working collaboratively with the NCAA to review the facts and circumstances of each case.

According to an NCAA press release, Iowa State can appeal the decision to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, an independent group comprised of representatives from member colleges, universities and athletic conferences.
